A forensic ergonomic evaluation is an objective, documented assessment of a workstation, job task or claimed injury by a certified ergonomic professional. It measures physical demands and risk factors, compares them with recognized standards, and produces a written, defensible report that employers, insurers, claim managers and legal teams can use for workers' compensation, ADA, FEHA and return-to-work decisions.
ErgonomicWorks provides forensic ergonomic evaluations in Los Angeles and throughout California, on site and, where appropriate, by detailed remote review.
"An ergonomic evaluation is only defensible if it withstands scrutiny by a claims examiner, during the FEHA interactive process, or under legal cross-examination. We evaluate forces, anthropometric clearances, and repetition rates to that standard on every case." — Azi Imandel, Principal Consultant.
Biomechanical Clearances and Anthropometric Standards (ANSI/HFES 100)
Evaluations measure popliteal clearance of 2–3 inches from the seat pan waterfall edge to the posterior knee, elbow flexion of 90–105° without shoulder elevation, radiocarpal (wrist) extension below 15°, and visual focal distance of 20–30 inches with the top third of the monitor at horizontal eye gaze. Desk, chair, monitor and keyboard adjustments are set to those measured clearances.

What you receive is documentation, not just advice.
A short request or call. We confirm the type of evaluation, location, timeline and who needs to be involved.
On site across California, or remote where appropriate: employee interview, discomfort and job-task review, workstation and posture assessment, and equipment review.
You receive documented findings, identified risk factors, and prioritized, practical recommendations — workstation adjustments, equipment guidance (vendor-neutral), and job-task considerations. Standard technical evaluation reports delivered within 3 to 5 business days post-assessment.
We help you plan next steps: adjustments, accommodation and return-to-work considerations, training, and re-assessment where needed.
Baseline vs. adjusted anthropometric measurements: joint angles, reaches, and clearances, measured against ANSI/HFES 100 (popliteal clearance 2 to 3 inches; elbow flexion 90 to 105 degrees; wrist extension below 15 degrees).
Feasible engineering, administrative, and workstation adjustments, categorized by urgency and cost impact.
Every finding aligned to Cal/OSHA Title 8 Section 5110, California FEHA (California Government Code Section 12940(n)), and ADA Title I.
Non-proprietary dimensional requirements only; no brand-linked shopping lists, no hardware sales. Sample documentation and scope frameworks are available upon formal request for credentialed procurement officers and case adjusters.
Choose on-site when the claim is complex, contested, or needs hands-on measurement. Choose remote when it's a single workstation, early discomfort, or a distributed team.
Best for — On-site: Complex or contested claims; industrial & multi-workstation risk. Remote: Home/hybrid workers; single workstation; early discomfort.
What happens — On-site: In-person measurement, job-task & physical-demands review, hands-on adjustment. Remote: Structured video interview, workstation & posture review, equipment review.
Documentation — On-site: Full written report, forensic standard where required. Remote: Written report with recommendations.
Choose it when — On-site: Job analysis / essential-functions documentation is required. Remote: You need a faster first review across locations.
Joint Angle/Clearance Testing — On-site: Measured directly at the workstation by the consultant. Remote: Guided self-measurement, verified with photos and video.
Defensibility Level — On-site: Highest — first-hand measurement and observation for claims and legal review. Remote: High — documented measurements and imagery for accommodation and prevention cases.
Not sure? Request an evaluation and we will recommend the right format for the case — we will not sell you the more expensive option if remote will do the job properly.
How Much Does an Ergonomic Evaluation Cost in California?
Cost depends on the type of evaluation (preventive, workers' comp or forensic), on-site vs remote delivery, the number of workstations or job tasks, and the reporting your case requires — which is why we publish our pricing factors openly instead of hiding them behind a sales call.
Forensic and contested-claim evaluations cost more than a preventive single-workstation assessment because the documentation must stand up to review. HR, WC and risk teams can budget and get internal approval from our pricing factors and steps — no surprises.
"The cheapest evaluation is the one you only have to do once — documented properly, the first time." — Azi Imandel
Biomechanical Clearances and Anthropometric Standards (ANSI/HFES 100)
Every ErgonomicWorks workstation evaluation measures equipment adjustment against ANSI/HFES 100 standards to ensure proper physical accommodation:
Popliteal clearance — 2 to 3 inches between the seat pan waterfall edge and the posterior knee. Eliminates compression of the popliteal fossa and maintains lower-extremity circulation during prolonged sitting.
Elbow flexion — 90 to 105 degrees, on a neutral forearm/typing plane, without shoulder elevation. Maintains upper-extremity neutrality and minimizes static load on the trapezius and deltoid musculature.
Wrist posture (radiocarpal extension) — Below 15 degrees of extension. Minimizes pressure inside the carpal canal and reduces median nerve impingement risk.
Visual focal distance and display height — 20 to 30 inches to the primary display; top third of the monitor aligned with horizontal eye gaze. Reduces sustained neck flexion and eye strain.
Ulnar/radial deviation — 0 degrees.
Line-of-sight declination — 0 to 15 degrees.
These quantitative clearances are measured, calculated, and documented in every written report, ensuring that workplace modifications under Cal/OSHA Title 8 Section 5110 or California FEHA rest on objective anthropometric data rather than subjective impressions.

Yes. Our main office is in Los Angeles and we provide on-site ergonomic evaluations throughout California, with remote ergonomic assessments available for distributed and home-based employees.
A preventive evaluation aims to correct risk factors, including desk, chair, monitor, and keyboard adjustments, before an injury or claim. A forensic evaluation is a more detailed, documented assessment for an existing, complex or contested claim, designed so its findings can be used in workers' comp, ADA/FEHA and legal decisions.
